UCLA Professor Nanyun Violet Peng recently received the 2023 Google Research Scholar Award. The Research Scholar Program supports research at institutions around the world, awarding grants up to $60,000 USD, and is focused on funding world-class research conducted by early-career professors. There are 78 recipients across all research areas worldwide. Peng was one of only 4 researchers in the NLP (natural language processing) research area that received one of these prestigious grants. Among the sixteen research areas include algorithms and optimization, applied science, health research, machine learning and data mining, quantum computing, and structured data. The award supports Professor Peng’s work in Automatic Evaluation Metrics for Multimodal Open-Domain Creative Generation.
