Demetri Terzopoulos, UCLA Distinguished Professor and Chancellor’s Professor of Computer Science, was honored as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) in April 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to the field of engineering both in Canada and internationally.
The Canadian Academy of Engineering, which includes over 800 Fellows, celebrates individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and provided career-long service to the engineering profession. According to the Academy’s website, “Fellows of the Academy are nominated and elected by their peers for their distinguished accomplishments and commitment to advancing engineering.”
Professor Terzopoulos has made significant contributions to the fields of computer graphics, computer vision, and medical image analysis. His pioneering work on physics-based modeling, particularly in the development of deformable models, has revolutionized the way we understand and simulate complex physical systems.
