UCLA Professor Jason Cong, received the “Global Industry Leader” Award from ChipEx’2023 on May 8, 2023 in Tel Aviv, Israel, for his groundbreaking research and development that has revolutionized electronic design automation and FPGA design methods. Additionally, his contributions as a co-founder of several chip design-related companies and his dedication to teaching hundreds of students at UCLA, many of whom now hold influential positions in the semiconductor industry, were acknowledged.

Currently, Dr. Cong is the Volgenau Chair for Engineering Excellence in the UCLA Computer Science Department, the Director of Center for Domain-Specific Computing, and the director of VLSI Architecture, Synthesis, and Technology (VAST) Laboratory. His research interests include electronic design automation, customized computing for machine learning and big-data applications, quantum computing, and highly scalable algorithms. He has published over 500 research papers in these areas, with 17 Best Paper Awards and four papers in FPGA and Reconfigurable Computing Hall of Fame. He is a Fellow of ACM, IEEE, and the National Academy of Inventors, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

ChipEx is the largest annual conference dedicated to the Israeli Semiconductor Industry. The award was presented by John Neuffer, President and CEO of the (US) Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), Ami Appelbaum, Chief Scientist of the Israel Ministry of Economy & Chairman and Israel Innovation Authority, and Co-Chairman of ChipEx’2023 Ran Ginosar and Shlomo Gradman.
