::facts
My name is Petros Efstathopoulos and I was born in Athens, Greece on the otherwise not really interesting 28th day of May, 1978.
I have lived most of my life in Athens. In 2002 I moved to Los Angeles where I currently live. Right now I am a graduate student at UCLA, doing my PhD in Computer Science.
Ok, if you insist, then that's me.
::education
In July 2001 I graduated from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece,
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. I majored in
Computer Science (Computer Systems, Software engineering and
Telecommunication/Computer Networks) and my thesis was on the "Design and Implementation of a Memory Based Distributed Filesystem for a Cluster of Workstations".
During the academic year 2001-2002 I worked at the Computing Systems Laboratory, NTUA as a systems administrator and graduate researcher (funding member of the Parallel and Distributed Systems Group). More on this in /work.
In 2002 I joined the PhD program of UCLA's Computer Science department. Currently I am working with Eddie Kohler and some other cool people on a new operating system called Asbestos. Again, see /work for more details.
::leisure
I like to take photos. Some of them end up in my "project 365" website. Many others go to flickr.
I like to use the pictures I take and make web sites. Much like this.
I like to travel. (and take pictures of course)
I like computers. Nowdays I spend most of my free time in front of a computer.
I like good bars, good friends and good conversations. But I'm very picky.
Music? Yes please, lots of it. All kinds of it. (Also, see /misc)
Mainly grunge, indie rock, alternative, dark wave & gothic, some mainstream rock and pop stuff. I used to listen to a lot of blues and jazz music. My current playlist includes Interpol, James, Madrugada, Suede, The Killers, Kasabian, Bjork and so many others. Marilyn Manson is always haunting my playlists...
I don't read much, but I enjoy books I can relate to.
Do you like Demian ?
What about the Perfume ?
And what about C.P. Cavafy ?
I have to admit that I really enjoyed the Harry Potter books.
Right now I'm reading Gates of Fire, which is really interesting.
