Visitors With Doctorates, Professors at Other Institutions of Higher Learning

Highly qualified individuals such as faculty (often Ph.D.s) who seek visiting status are certainly an asset to UCLA.
However, the large number of people seeking to visit poses a problem.
Only the official who has Department Chair status can authorize such a visit.
In December 2013 and throughout 2014 the person to contact is Prof. Palsberg.

New Formalized Process for Visiting Undergraduate Students
Dean Chang

Date Tuesday, August 30, 2011 2:30 PM
Dear Colleagues:

Every year UCLA receives numerous requests to host undergraduate visitors (non-UCLA students, collectively referred to as "Undergraduate Student Visitors"). These Undergraduate Student Visitors come to the campus to join laboratories and/or participate in other scholarly activities.

For the safety of the Undergraduate Student Visitors, and for the campus to have a record of who is participating in research and scholarly activities, we have developed a formal "registration" process. Effective immediately, anytime you have Undergraduate Student Visitors, you will need to register them. The registration mechanism depends on factors related to their compensation status.

Point of contact: Olivia Edwards, Assistant to Associate Dean for Research and Physical Resources, UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, Boelter Hall 7400, Phone: 310-206-8245, Email: oae@ea.ucla.edu .

Registration ensures that we have a record of our Undergraduate Student Visitors and their activities, which is important for our insurance and risk management. Please be advised that each department or unit should have its own process in place for ensuring that the appropriate trainings and internal processes are followed for laboratory safety and/or building access, as applicable. A special thank you to the committee that came together to define the categories and processes, with representation from Division of Undergraduate Education, Financial Aid Office, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, UCLA Audit and Advisory Services, Graduate Division, Corporate Financial Services, and Office of the Registrar. For questions about Undergraduate Student Visitors of any status, please contact Tama Hasson in the Undergraduate Research Center- Science, Engineering and Math, who has generously agreed to serve as the contact person for these issues for the entire campus.
