Windows 2000/XP Printing Setup

Graduate students can use the following public printers:
pub1 (Model – HP 9050 PS) Located in 4816
pub3 (Model – HP 9050 PS) Located in 3286

How to setup printing to PUBLIC printers:
(Public Printers – available to everyone in the department)

Note: User must be logged in as administrator.
1. Download the print driver for pub1 or pub3, Windows XP does not have the driver for pub1 or pub3 built-in.
2. Click on ‘Run’ to install the printer driver file you just downlaoded, it will unzip itself into a directory on your C drive named ‘HP LJ90x0 PS Driver’ (you will need to know this location later in the setup).
3. Get into printer setup.
4. Click on Add Printer.
5. Click on next in the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.
6. Click on Network Printer.
7. Click on the Connect to a printer on the internet or on your intranet radio button.
8. Copy and paste or enter this URL: http://printer.cs.ucla.edu:631/printers/pub1 (subsitute pub3 for that printer).
9. When you click the Next button you will see a Connect to Printer dialog box stating that the server does not have the correct driver for this printer, click OK which will bring up a Add Printer Wizard dialog box, click the Have Disk button which will bring up a Install From Disk dialog box, click the Browse button which brings up a Locate File dialog box, now you need to browse to the ‘HP LJ90x0 PS Driver’ directory and click on the Open button which of course brings up another dialog box Install From Disk click the OK button, this brings up another dialog box AddPrinter Wizard make sure the HP laserJet 9050 PS is highlighted and click on the OK button.
10. The next dialog box asks whether you want this as your default printer, select yes or no and then click on the Next button.
11. Click on Finish in the next dialog box and you are done.

To setup duplex printing on pub1 or pub3:
1. Get properties on the printer.
2. In the HP LaserJet 9050 PS dialog box select the Device Settings tab.
3. Scroll down to the Installable Options section.
4. Click on Duplex Unit and select Installed from the drop down menu.
5. Click OK and you are done.


How to setup printing to SUITE printers:
Suite printers are HP 4250 PS
(Suite Printers – faculty and support staff only) 

Note: User must be logged in as administrator.

1. Download the HP 4250dtn driver to your desktop.
2. Doubleclick on the printer driver file you just downlaoded, it will unzip itself into a directory on your C drive named lj4250-4350 (you will need to know this location later in the setup).
3. Get into printer setup.
4. Click on Add Printer.
5. Click on next in the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard dialog box.
6. Click on Network Printer.
7. Click on the Connect to a printer on the internet or on your intranet radio button.
8. Copy and paste or enter this URL: http://printer.cs.ucla.edu:631/printers/37 (subsitute 35, 37, 45, 47 to use those printers).
9. When you click the Next button you will see a Connect to Printer dialog box stating that the server does not have the correct driver for this printer, click OK which will bring up a Add Printer Wizard dialog box, click the Have Disk button which will bring up a Install From Disk dialog box, click the Browse button which brings up a Locate File dialog box, now you need to browse to the ‘HP Universal Print Driver v5.0.3 for Windows – PostScript’ directory and click on the Open button which of course brings up another dialog box ‘Install From Disk’ click the OK button, this brings up another dialog box AddPrinter Wizard make sure the HP laserJet 4250 PS is highlighted and click on the OK button.
10. The next dialog box asks whether you want this as your default printer, select yes or no and then click on the Next button.
11. Click on Finish in the next dialog box and you are done.

To setup duplex printing on suite printers:
1. Get properties on the printer.
2. In the HP LaserJet 4250 PS dialog box select the Device Settings tab.
3. Scroll down to the Installable Options section.
4. Click on Duplex Unit and select Installed from the drop down menu.
5. Click OK and you are done.
