Dr. Goodin is currently Industry Relations Coordinator for the UCLA Electrical Engineering Department. In this position he is responsible for building and nurturing relationships between the UCLA Electrical Engineering Department, allied departments, and industry, through identification of industry needs, and creation of associations and alliances. This involves disseminating technical information on the Department’s research, as well as identify internship opportunities for UCLA students, and opportunities for involvement of industry and alumni in the Department’s teaching mission, including those of student organizations.

He was previously Associate Director of Alumni Relations at the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he was responsible for building and maintaining relationships with alumni to increase their participation and involvement within the School. This included organizing alumni networking events on campus and at company and regional locations, supporting technical forums, research reviews, and awards dinners, enhancing student support and mentoring opportunities, arranging company infosessions for hiring students, supporting sports and social events, departmental alumni relations activities and boards, and the Engineering Alumni Association Governing Board and committees. Recognizing alumni through the School’s engineering awards process, and celebrate their accomplishments in publications and on the website.  

He was previously Director of the Short Course Program at UCLA Extension where he was responsible for the development, marketing, and quality assurance of approximately 175 daytime and evening non-credit short courses in computer and information systems, engineering, and technical management. These courses were presented on the UCLA campus and around the world for customers in the aerospace, communications, chemical, information, and electronics industries. He was also responsible for the one-week Technical Management Program, which is held twice a year on the UCLA campus, and attracts more than 250 technical managers to campus from across the US and around the world.

Previously, he served in technical and management positions at Hughes Aircraft Company (defense software), Digital Productions (graphics software), and Dames & Moore (environmental software). He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology.

Dr. Goodin is a Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery, (past chair of the Los Angeles Chapter of ACM), a Senior Member of the Society of Women Engineers, and a member of Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the computer science honor society, Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical and computer engineering honor society, and Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society (chief advisor of the UCLA chapter). He also serves on the Governing Board of the UCLA Engineering Alumni Association, the Electrical Engineering Department Alumni Advisory Board, and as Chair of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department Alumni Advisory Board.

He has received the Rodney D. Chipp Memorial Award from the Society of Women Engineers for steadfast support of advancing women in engineering and for actively encouraging participation of women in programs that foster technical leadership skills, the McDonald Mentoring Award from Tau Beta Pi for his outstanding mentoring and advising of students and alumni, and the EAA Service Award from the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science for his active role in connecting alumni and students with the School.

Dr. Goodin holds a BA in mathematics from San Jose State University, MS in computer science, PhD in mechanical engineering, and MEngr in engineering management, all from UCLA.
