Biography

Dr. Melkanoff was born in Russia and received the B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from New York University in 1943. He earned the M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics at UCLA in 1950 and 1955. He joined the School of Engineering faculty in 1962 and served as the first Chairman of the Computer Science Department from 1969 to 1972. Currently he is Co-PI of a research project in concurrent engineering and PI of a major research project in intelligent manufacturing. Recognized for his contributions to education, he has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Dr. Melkanoff’s research interests center on programming languages, management information systems, data bases, data models, expert systems, AI in manufacturing, concurrent engineering, CAD/CAM, robotics and simulation.
