CS 201: Say Hello to Waymo, KHALED REFAAT, Waymo

Speaker: Khaled Refaat
Affiliation: Waymo

ABSTRACT: Waymo is a self-driving technology company with the mission to make it safe and easy for everyone to get around–without the need for anyone in the driver’s seat. Our journey started at Google in 2009, and we became Waymo in 2016. From our beginnings as the Google self-driving car project, we’ve been working to make our roads safer, free up people’s time, and improve mobility for everyone. Now, as an independent company, Waymo is more committed than ever to the same goal. In this talk, I will shed some light on our mission, achievements and challenges. BIO: Khaled is a senior robotics researcher at Waymo working on self-driving cars. He was previously a robotics researcher at Google [X]. He received his PhD in computer science from UCLA where he was a member of the Automated Reasoning Group. He is the recipient of the Northrop Grumman outstanding research award. Before UCLA, he was a researcher at LAAS-CNRS, France working on stochastic analysis of real-time systems. His research interests are in machine learning, robotics, automated reasoning and optimization.
