Macintosh OS X Printer Setup

Graduate students can use the following public printers:
pub3 (Model – HP 9050 PS) Located in Boelter Hall 3286

Faculty and Graduate students working in a Lab in Engineering 6 can use these printers:
p292 (Model – HP M605) Located in Engineering 6 Room 292
p394 (Model – HP M605) Located in Engineering 6 Room 394
p494 (Model – HP M605) Located in Engineering 6 Room 494

How to setup printing to PUBLIC printers:
(Public Printers – available to everyone in the department)

Note: User must be logged in as administrator.
Note: For Wireless printing you must connect to eduroam wireless network.

1. Under the Apple menu click on ‘System Preferences’.
2. Select the ‘Printers & Scanners’ utility.
3. Delete the old suite printer if you had one setup.
4. Choose Add Printer by clicking on the ‘+’ under the Printers window on the left side.
5. Choose a Protocol type from drop-down menu – Internet Printing Protocol IPP.
6. In the Address field type printer.cs.ucla.edu:631
7. In the Queue field type “/printers/pub3?compression=gzip” (substitute pub3 for the printer you want)
8. In the Name field type the printer name again (for example pub3).
9. In the Use field, Generic Postscript Printer should be already selected.
10. In the Add Printer dialog click Add.
11. In the ‘Installable Options’ dialog box click on the checkbox for ‘Duplex Unit’.
12. Click ‘Continue’ to finish setting up printer.
Note: The default setting for printing will be single sided printing, if you want double sided printing you will need to select it in the print dialog box – in the print dialog box click on the drop down menu labeled ‘Copies & Pages’ and select ‘Layout’. Once you have selected ‘Layout’ you should see the option to turn on ‘Two Sided Printing’.

How to setup printing to SUITE printers:
Suite printers are HP 4250 PS
(Suite Printers – faculty and support staff only)

Note: User must be logged in as administrator.
Download and install the HP printer driver software located here:

1. Under the Apple menu click on ‘System Preferences’.
2. Select the ‘Print & Fax’utility – located under ‘Hardware’.
3. Delete the old suite printer if you had one setup.
4. Choose Add Printer by clicking on the ‘+’ under the Printers window on the left side.
5. Choose a Protocol type from drop-down menu – Internet Printing Protocol IPP.
6. In the Address field type printer.cs.ucla.edu:631
7. In the Queue field type “/printers/XXXX” (replace XXXX with the desired printer)
8. In the Name field type the printer name (for example 35 suite).
9. In the Print Using field from the drop-down menu choose Select Printer Software.
10. In the Printer Software dialog box choose HP Laserjet 4250 and click OK.
11. In the Add Printer dialog click Add.
12. In the ‘Installable Options’ dialog box click on the checkbox for ‘Duplex Unit’.
13. Click ‘Continue’ to finish setting up printer.
