Grading

9% quizzes
40% project
15% midterm
36% final exam

Quizzes and exams are done in-class. Quizzes are closed book; exams are open book and open notes. No written makeups will be given.

The lateness penalty for an assignment that is submitted between N and N+1 full days late (where N is nonnegative) is 2N% of the assignment's value. That is, the penalty is 1% for being up to 1 day late, 2% for being from 1 to 2 days late, 4% for being from 2 to 3 days late, and so forth. Assignments are not accepted after the last day of class, or after the lateness penalty renders them irrelevant to the final grade.

Students must follow the UCLA Student Conduct Code, which prohibits cheating, fabrication, multiple submissions, and facilitating academic dishonesty. A summary of the code can be found in the Student Guide to Academic Integrity, and the the Office of the Dean of Students has nicely summarized the do's and don'ts in a notice to all UCLA students. Students are encouraged to study together, and to discuss general problem-solving techniques that are useful on assignments; but when working on the homework assignment students must specify the sources for all parts of their project; in particular, each changelog entry must accurately identify who contributed to that change. If you have questions about the policy, please discuss them with the instructor.
