Scope:
------
The IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC):
Wireless Communications Series invites the submission of high-quality
technical manuscripts on advances in the state-of-the-art of wireless
communications. Both theoretical contributions (including new
techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions
(including system experiements, prototypes, and new applications) are
encouraged. Tutorial expositions of permanent reference value are
also welcome. In general, material that has been previously
copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication will not be
considered for publication in this Journal. Exceptions to this rule
include items that have limited distribution, have appeared in
Abstract form only, or have appeared only in conference proceedings.
Notice of such prior publication must be disclosed at the time of
submission to this Journal. All papers are considered on the basis of
their individual merit, and the fact that the paper may have been
accepted for presentation at a conference does not ensure its
acceptance for publication in the IEEE J-SAC: Wireless Communications
Series. In most cases, a conference paper must be substantially
revised to meet the technical standards maintained by the Journal. A
manuscript identical to, or largely based upon, a conference paper
must be so identified. All papers are reviewed by competent referees
and are considered on the basis of their significance, novelty, and
usefulness to the Journal readership.

                        CALL FOR PAPERS
         IEEE J-SAC: WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SERIES

The IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (J-SAC) is in
its sixteenth year of existence. Until now, each J-SAC issue has been
organized by one or more Guest Editors and has been devoted to a
single specialized topic in the field of communications. Currently,
nine such issues are published each year. Starting in March of 1999,
however, J-SAC will expand to address the large and rapidly growing
interest in wireless communications. Specifically, the nine regular
issues of J-SAC will be supplemented with three issues dedicated
solely to wireless communications and developed from articles
submitted in the general wireless area.

The three general wireless issues will be published in March, July,
and November. Manuscripts can be submitted at any time. Each
submission will be reviewed by at least three experts and evaluated
by a full-time editorial board dedicated to the wireless area. The
Editor-in-Chief of this major new publishing initiative will be Len
Cimini from AT&T Labs-Research. Proposals for the nine regular J-SAC
issues, including those dealing with specific topics within wireless
communications, will continue to be encouraged and will be evaluated
in the traditional way.

For the new publication, we invite the submission of high-quality
manuscripts on advances in the state-of-the-art of wireless
communications. Both theoretical contributions (including new
techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions
(including system experiments and prototypes, and new applications)
are encouraged.

The general scope of the series includes, but is not limited to, the
following:

      experimental and prototype results,
      propagation and channel characterization,
      modulation and coding,
diversity, equalization, and other fading countermeasures,
      synchronization,
      multiple access,
      resource and interference management,
      network architectures and protocols,
      security and authentication, and
systems and services (e.g., mobile satellites, wireless local loop, wireless LAN's, wireless PBX, PCS/cellular).

In addition, paper on specific "hot" topics, or on more
nontraditional topics related to specific application areas, are
encouraged. Examples include:

      DSP applications to wireless systems,
      software radios,
simulation tools for analysis, prediction, and cellular engineering,
      orthogonal frequency division multiplexing,
      multi-user detection,
adaptive antennas for wireless systems, and
      mobile computing.
